Vietnam and
the United States are currently negotiating the adoption process between
the two countries. When negotiations are complete and a bilateral
agreement is signed, adoptions can continue. The information below will
change according to the agreement.
Children
Adoptions
Plus works directly with Children of Peace International (COPI) a
humanitarian organization that was founded and exists to serve the
people of Vietnam by developing the capabilities for the people to help
themselves. COPI was established by a wonderfully gracious, spirited
Vietnamese-American woman who has lived in Colorado since 1975. The
poverty in Vietnam over the past few decades has cause many thousands of
children to be abandoned to the streets. In 1993, Children of Peace
began with one orphanage with twenty-seven children. COPI now helps
support more than 2000 orphans in six orphanages, and Ms. Rybacki knows
almost all of them personally. COPI strives to enhance the life of each
child they touch, whether that child is available for adoption or not.
The children available
for adoption are five months and up and are basically healthy and
well-nourished. They may have some treatable developmental delays due to
orphanage life. The orphanages are clean, well kept and the nannies
clearly love the children. Some children need to be placed with siblings
and others have special medical needs. There are many older children
available. Medical records and histories are available and vary from
very detailed to not much information.
Parent Qualifications
Vietnam
does not have an age requirement. Married couples and single people may
apply. This may or may not change.
The Wait
Once
your dossier is received by Children of Peace, a referral of a child
matching your requirements can be made within one to three months. If
you accept the referral, we can schedule travel usually within three
months.
Some provinces require the family travel, meet their child, set a court
date and return in forty days. Other provinces will process the adoption
in one trip. We are unable to control or predict the province.
The Fee
To be determined with new regulations.
